Vista slip to boost Linux says Red Hat
Enterprise Linux software vendor Red Hat Inc yesterday said quarterly profit had more than doubled thanks to strong subscription sales from its business customers.
The company also tipped its hat to Microsoft Corp, whose much delayed Windows Vista operating system is driving more corporate usage of Linux, according to Red Hat chief executive Matthew Szulik.
Last week, Microsoft yet again pushed back the release of Vista by a few weeks. The latest delay likely will lead to further discontent by enterprise Windows users, who will look to open-source software such as Linux as an alternative, Szulik said.
