The Unwitting Linux Saboteurs

I spend time in my Google Plus private Linux Advocates community sharing ideas and trends with colleagues. Occasionally, we hit on nuggets of gold and when you least expect it, someone comments and really helps put things into perspective. Desktop Linux's own worst enemy has been the desktop Linux community.

With regret, I consider the various new desktop environments, those who enthusiastically support them and all the distributions and environments drifting towards distro/environment specific applications to be unintentional traitors to the goal of spreading Free software on the desktop.

Short sighted behaviour is sabotaging things, not the number of distros.

Running The AMD Radeon R9 Fury With AMD's New Open-Source Linux Driver

Now that Linux 4.2 is set to be released today, out on the horizon we have to look forward to Linux 4.3 kernel. Set to be merged into Linux 4.3 will be in the initial open-source AMD driver code for supporting the Radeon R9 Fury graphics cards. This open-source Fury support is the focus of our testing today with it being the first time powering up this Fiji GPU outside of Catalyst. Read more
