7 Things I like about Elementary OS Luna

Linux

Elementary OS team have been developing this release for a long time since the release of the long term support release Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin. After using Luna OS, I understand how much effort they did in this release to became what it is right now.

1. Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin

Elementary OS Luna is based on the long term support release Ubuntu 12.04 Precise Pangolin. Which mean it will receive official security updates and packages from Ubuntu until April 2017. Unlike the previous version of Elementary OS “Jupiter” which based on Ubuntu 10.10 “Maverick Meerkat” non-LTS release, it usually received official security updates for 2 years. So, this a really good point to make the base of Elementary OS on LTS release.

Pre-releases of the Wily Werewolf are *not* encouraged for anyone needing a stable system or anyone who is not comfortable running into occasional, even frequent breakage. They are, however, recommended for Ubuntu flavor developers and those who want to help in testing, reporting and fixing bugs as we work towards getting this release ready. Read more
