Script Kiddies
EVERY now and then people come to IRC or send an E-mail asking for a Tux Machines user account to be created. It's the only way to get comments or forum posts through. It's now scarce. That's because for over a year the registration option has been disabled, due to spam that floods the database with spam users who potentially spam the Web site too (comments, forum posts, etc.), demonstrating a real issue that I have had with PHP-Nuke, MediaWiki, Drupal, and WordPress in some other Web sites. It is a common issue with no perfect solution to it. Since spammers use random names (causing consistency issues in the database) and fake E-mail addresses this can get the server blacklisted by some mail servers, which in itself is problematic.
We have enabled database-based blacklists to prevent some registrations by spammers and this will hopefully allow us to restore community participation, not just from long-time readers who registered years ago. █

Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |
