Which Linux kernels are stable with stable l;ibrary ?
If you are chasing rainbow, you use the latest Linux kernel version numbers.
The smart distros used Linux kernel numbers which may have two years of length of service. 2.4.22 is stable with stable Library synchronized with the official kernel. Then 2.4.31.
Knoppix stayed on 2.6.9 for two years or so. It maybe one of the stable ones with Knoppix synchronized libraries.
Others like tiny Linux distros cheated by not using any library, or only use ash/bash2 and gtk2 or tcl/tk. They enjoy stability with backward compatible drivers such as xvesa. Now that xorg has xvesa choice, it is becoming more stable for tiny Linux distros.
The full blown Linux distros are now smart enough to quickly approve project dictation of component versions in their new library. This will prevent many bug fixings not really needed.
We are seeing a trend of more stable releases recently. And we are now pushing for more functionality in each and every application software.
We must move on.
