Ubuntu on an Intel Mac
Late last week, I received an Macbook Pro 2Ghz (Intel Core Duo based) laptop with the instructions 'we know Bootcamp makes OSX work with Windows, what about a real operating environment'.
... by the way, we need to be able to present this on Wednesday.
So, Late last week, about an hour after this request -- I had my first experience with OSX ever, as well as first experiences with Bootcamp and Windows XP (those that know me personally, know i've not touched a Win32 box for any reason since the turn of the century, and why.) -- conducting various experiments in dual, triple, back to dual, back to triple, accidently running the version of parted that comes with Ubuntu from a shell during installation and writing off the disc drive, and finally settling on dual-booting again.
Four days later, with no sleep and little food (if my mum reads this, i'm sorry for being snappy at you when trying to suggest I eat lunch before leaving home yesterday.) -- there's an operational machine on my couch -- with Bootcamp, MacOSX and Ubuntu Dapper Drake, all happily coexisting, without chain-loading (ick!) and with wicked performance benchmarks.
Long story short, it can be done, but it's a big hack:

re: ubuntu on intel mac
I was able to dig up these articles:
mactel-linux wiki w/ link to howto and other good info.
Debian Howto. As you might know, ubuntu is based on debian, so this may help.
