OpenBook: MIT $100 laptop and UMPC get "open" competition
The project would like to start a discussion on the possible universal budget device that is network ready and is not "bloated" with features that only make it more expensive and lower the battery life. Open source software is most likely to power it and the start draft (Draft 0.1) of the OpenBook specifications contains following:
Hardware:
* ARM9 CPU
* 14" TFT LCD with touchscreen
* 256MB RAM
* 1GB FLASH memory
* Wifi
* USB 2.0
* full-size-key thin attachable keyboard
Software:
* open source based OS
There is also a OpenBook Forum available to talk about the project and its competition.
