A review of Blag Linux and GNU

Blag is an ever-growing GNU/Linux operating system distribution developed by a few highly dedicated free software activists in the UK. Blag, which is a recursive acronym for the phrase ‘Blag Linux and GNU’, is one of the six GNU/Linux distributions that is supported by the GNU Project and Richard Stallman.

I first found Blag while perusing the GNU Project’s web site, under the section ‘Obtaining GNU/Linux’. At the time, I thought to myself, “I can get GNU/Linux anywhere, not just here!” But there was additional merit to the distributions on the GNU web site: All of the GNU/Linux distributions listed contained 100% free software. In today’s computing environment, this is generally a novel concept. The majority of GNU/Linux distributions today do not contain all free software - there are sometimes restricted copyrights associated with the software, or the kernel is modified and contains proprietary components, etc. This is the case with distributions such as Ubuntu, SuSE, and Mepis, among most others.
