Commercial apps added to Ubuntu updates
With little fanfare Canonical, the company behind Ubuntu Linux, has introduced a new "commercial" repository to its list of update options and a number of new commercial applications are being added to this list. One of the first is Panda Software's DesktopSecure.
DesktopSecure is a security suite for Linux workstations, integrating anti-malware and firewall technologies.
The version of DesktopSecure available to users of Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper Drake) includes free services and updates for three months. After the initial three months users can purchase an annual licence for R399. Licences are also available for 24 and 36 months at a reduced price. Buying an annual licence gives users access to all updates, including new releases of DesktopSecure.
