Essay on software development, creation or evolution ?
God made this world in seven days and seven nights. But man discovered evolution by Darwin. God created snake with a mind of eating head first. If not, then snake will chase its own tail and try to eat it. Darwin thinks that snake will evolve into a monitor lizzard. Today, of course, with DNA analysis, evolution is only in the family, not from strange developments out of evolution.
Microsoft operating system is from creation, sometimes borrowing codes from others for expediency. Dos, Win3.1, Win 95/98/Me, WinXP, Vista. The codes are not compatible in each creation.
Linux, because of open source, people in the community whether newbies as well as eperienced experts, started evolution of existing codes by hacking away any resemblance of order. Evolution is a hacked mess. Firefox, Opera and google toolbar are a menace to existing websites, which is established order. So, now only IE6.0 is able to logon to banks online with third party established security. Third party add-ons made Microsoft safe from their own irated employees. And bank employees made third party employees fear for their own dismissal.
So, I got discouraged by the Linux mess and made a mission for myself to make Linux, usable at least.
Novell is now trying to make order out of chaos. Novell has to lock down 2.6.x kernels(synchronized distributed network with local priority and large telco-hotspot server hardware), so that Linux users will have working operating system. Locked down compatible Linux will take over Linux customers with older versions offering superior support on Novell codes. This is about 10% of the computer market.
RedHat is trying to develop creation(revolution out of chaos) to obsolete the past Linux versions. It is going to compete with Microsoft Vista with realtime functions. The revolution to take over Microsoft's 90% of the market is a much going uphill work, and not easy to accomplish.
In the end, Both had to buy out a browser supplier to make it work locked down and compatible with IE6.0, which is 90% of the market. Browsers(Konqueror included) had to be locked down(!) to be usable on most websites, then all the websites.
