Open Source: Closing the tech gap
IT today is playing an important role in shaping our present and future -- of not just select individuals, but of entire societies.
But this penetration of technology has also resulted in haves and have-nots of a different kind. One, those who are moving ahead in technology assimilation while others, for whom technology is still a mystical demon. ‘Digital divide’ has taken a global shape and is not only marring developing countries but is also a point of concern for the developed world The problem is multi-faceted and has a large social connotation .
However, despite the intensity of the issue, bridging this ‘digital divide’ is often low on the priority list of the IT industry as well as policy makers.
