Mandriva Linux Discovery 2007
The latest release of Mandriva Linux brings some interesting things to the table. In this review I'll cover Mandriva Linux Discovery, a version of Mandriva Linux geared towards newcomers that might not have used Linux before. Also available are Mandriva Linux Powerpack and Powerpack +, as well as Mandriva Flash (a USB portable version of Mandriva).
New in this release is a 3D desktop, 32- and 64-bit versions, the inclusion of Transgaming's Cedega (to play Windows games on your Linux computer), and LinDVD (a program that allows you to view your DVD movies legally in Mandriva).
Installation
You can opt to install Mandriva either via a traditional install or through Mandriva One. Mandriva One comes bundled on the main Mandriva DVD and allows you to boot a Mandriva desktop into memory. So, while you are doing your install, you can be using Mandriva to do the usual stuff (using apps, browsing the web, etc.).
Mandriva One is an excellent way of doing your install as you don't have to just sit there.

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |
