The GPL, EULA and BSD licenses. Who's the target?
There are so many different licenses floating around the computer industry today that it is not funny. To me they all seem to stem from a mixture of three primary licenses. Much like all the colours of the rainbow can be generated from three primary colours. Those licenses are the GPL, the EULA and the BSD style licenses. These licenses have very different targets.
The GPL license comes from the Free Software Foundation and the Richard Stallman camp. The EULA comes from the Microsoft and Bill Gates camp while the BSD style license comes from the University and professorial camp.
Perhaps the most controversial license at the time of this posting is the GPL.
