Help! My Linux won't start.
At one stage of our Linux adventure we have all come across this situation. Here you are happily exploring and tweaking your system when all of a sudden it doesn't start any more. There are many things that could have been done from changing screen resolutions to a script or runlevel gone bad.
If you are from a windows background the most common thing you have done is to format and re-install from scratch. Those in the know however know that re-installing linux from scratch is the absolutely last ditch effort and should only be tried if all other options have been tried and failed. It very rarely comes to that. About the only time you would need to re-install linux is if you type (don't do this!!!) "rm -rf /" as root and delete your linux system. Every linux aficionado has done that at least once in their linux explorations. It seems to be a right of passage or something
It really doesn't matter what you have done there are still a couple of ways you can boot or access your linux system to repair or rescue it. Even from an "rm" fumble if you are quick enough to "ctrl c" it and stop the deletion of death before it goes too far.
