PCLinuxOS 2007 A worthy alternative to Ubuntu?
Having read that PCLinuxOS had taken over the leaderboard from Ubuntu at Distrowatch as the most downloaded distro, I was keen to try it out.
The ~700mb download was relatively slow compared to Ubuntu and Vixta, taking just under 2 1/2 hours on a 4Mb link. While booting up as a live cd, I was prompted for the usual information, keyboard, country, time zone, as well as setting up the network. I left everything to the defaults, ethernet, dhcp etc, and I was connected to the internet before reaching the login screen. The passwords for guest and root were printed on the top left of the login screen. I can’t see the need for logging in as root on a live cd, though the password came in handy when I tried to save this review to my home partition on the hard disk.
