Hans Reiser Testifying He Still Cares for Nina, Missing Seat Explained
Hans Reiser took the stand Wednesday for the second day at his murder trial here, telling jurors that he still has feelings for his estranged wife he is accused of killing.
"Do you still care about her?" defense attorney William DuBois asked.
"Yes."
For security reasons, an unarmed sheriff's deputy is seated next to Hans Reiser, the popular open source developer. He has been jailed without bail since his Oct. 10, 2006 arrest. His skin is pasty white and his voice is soft, yet mixed with scratches.
As the 44-year-old defendant was taking the stand, his attorney asked him to fix the collar on the dark sports coat he was wearing, the outfit he has adorned since opening statements Nov. 6. One juror watched the gallery and looked to the ground, barely fixing his eyes on the Linux programmer.
