Mandriva 2008.1 PClinuxOS killer
With the release of Mandriva 2008 under its new leadership we saw a return to a quality build process and a very strong release. So 2008.1 is around the corner and up to RC1. Again the build quality is strong in 2008.1. In the years of weaker releases PClinuxOS has thrived by adding stability and minor speed improvements to the Mandriva release. Based on releases up to RC1 Mandriva seems set to put out a quality release high on end-user friendliness, features and stability where will PClinuxOS niche lie then. There have been no standout feature development as Ubuntu has done to Debian so will PClinuxOS wither and die swallowed up by Mandriva, Mepis and Kubuntu.
I currently a writing this from my kubuntu desktop, which it has been for sometime now over a year at least, however the finish and attention to detail will see my desktop change to Mandriva 2008.1. Why ? Kubuntu is a great desktop but it just doesn’t get the ubuntu developer attention it needs always playing poorer cousin to ubuntu. I admit I used gnome for a time with Slackware(dropline-gnome) and Fedora on which I used it extensively, however I have always returned to KDE when I wanted to be more productive. So here I am I have had enough of tinkering with linux internals and want to have a productive environment for video editing(my new passion), word processing, all the internet features out of the box for my partner and myself and photo editing(her passion). It was for these reasons I tuned into PClinuxOS in 2006, a short time after using Mandriva 2006 which for me suffered from performance issues.
