Dell shipping five Hardy Heron systems
Dell is shipping two new laptops with widescreen LCD displays and Ubuntu Hardy Heron (8.04) operating systems with DVD playback. Additionally, the largest U.S. PC maker has started offering Hardy Heron on three models previously available with the earlier Gutsy Gibbon Ubuntu release.
Dell has been installing Ubuntu on select laptop and desktop models for awhile now. The company first announced legal DVD playback under Linux in December of 2007.
New Dell models now available pre-installed with Ubuntu include:
Studio 15 -- A mid-priced ($750) widescreen laptop based on an Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 with 2MB of cache, the Studio 15 has a 667MHz FSB, a 15.4-inch 1280x800 display, and a slot-loading DVD+/-R optical drive
XPS M1530 -- A higher-end ($1,270) widescreen laptop, the XPS M1530 is based on an Intel Core 2 Duo T5850 with 2MB of cache. It has a 667MHz FSB, a 15.4-inch 1440 x 900 LCD, 2MP webcam, and a slot-loading DVD+/-R optical drive
