Playing Windows Games on Linux: What are your options
If you're a gamer or a recent linux switcher you probably think you can't play Windows games on your linux box - or that they will run very slow and crash because they are emulating the Windows DirectX API.
That's not the case anymore. In this article we go over 3 solutions to get yourself gaming in Linux in no time.I constantly get better framerates when running Need For Speed Carbon on my Ubuntu 8.04. And, while this game crashed 3 times on Windows XP, it never crashed on Ubuntu.
Wine
I've used Wine and tested it for a couple of weeks - installing from Office 2003 to iTunes and QuickTime. While it was good for text editors and DOS accounting programs it didn't manage gaming very well.
Don't get me wrong, Wine is a great program, and it's free - but not for emulating fast, performance intensive 3D games. However, if Solitaire is THE killer app for you, Wine is clear choice.
