The Linux movement has taken off and Dave Thompson goes undercover to find out how to join. Every week we get someone asking about Linux what is it, why is it and should I do it? The answer is complicated.
Regular readers will know that while not anti-Microsoft, I'm hardly its biggest fan.
I have no visions of toppling their empire, nor do I feel dirty after installing Windows.
The landscape is what it is and there isn't a whole lot that is going to change it anytime soon.
In most industries, there are market leaders and the inevitable wannabes.
The difference is that in most industries there are many sharing the lead, with not a lot separating them.

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |
