Review: Songbird 1.0
Songbird has been one of those media players that's been an enigma of sorts, a player that tries to be an all in everything player, an iTunes competitor, and so much more, and yet seemed to ultimately try to do too much, and yet succeed at too little. At least that was my impression of it in it's beta stages. Has that changed these days? Well, that remains to be seen.
The first thing I encountered upon installing Songbird is a nice, fat, ugly EULA. Yes, there's some mention of the GPL included, but that's only a tiny bit of the player. There's so many other areas that read like any other old proprietary EULA that it begins to make you wonder if you've truly downloaded a free, open source media player, or instead got bamboozled into downloading and installing a high maintenance proprietary application with a few twinkling of GPL added just for looks.
To say I'm disappointed by the EULA, especially after reading it, would be the understatement of the week.
