Break the reboot cycle. Use Linux.
You may have noticed that I have been quiet for the last couple of days. The reason is I have been working on a windows computer, trying to fix it. Reformatting and reloading was an option but the pain and time taken to reconfigure the thing was prohibitive.
However my nerves are now shot and loud noises and fast movements have me flying into a foaming rage. I seem to have a permanent twitch in my cheek and my hands are trembling uncontrollably. All because of how windows is designed.
What happened? This particular windows installation received a nasty present from a web site. Something that is very rare in the Linux world but is sadly all to common in the windows world. This machine was infected by a virus. Normally that would not have been a problem as my users have limited accounts and they cannot affect system files. This particular user had administrative rights because I was told to assign those rights.

Not necessarily black & white
You can also enjoy Windows without getting infected. Use Firefox, that is. Very simple. And then, there are no web nasties or anything alike.
As to reboots, well, it really depends on the user, again. I have XP machines that work well even after a month without reboot. Then again, I don't run McAfee or use a hosts file with 3 billion entries.
All that said, I think Linux is a superior OS, but most of this superiority is beyond the average users and their ability to squeeze the max. out of it.
If you're computer-savvy, you'll enjoy every operating system. And if you're the kind of user that gets hit by viruses when browsing, then nothing will help.
It does not have to either Windows OR Linux. It can be both. It's the best way.
