End of the line
I'm pulling the plug in openSUSE 11.1, and in the process, on Linux in general as a home system. I've been a Linux user for 15 years, but the last two (since mid-2007) have been a rapid fall of the cliff with regards to deteriorating quality and usability. What will I use going forward? Windows (XP and 7) and OS X. What finally pushed me over the edge? A one-two punch of KDE 4.2 and a kernel upgrade.
So, like Béranger, I'm defecting from Linux to Windows as a rational act. No more spare cycles and spare patience. No more downloads of oversized ISOs to test yet another distribution. No more purchases of boxed sets, or consumer devices that use it if I can help it. My use of Linux is now limited to where I work, only because it's Redhat (RHEL 4 and 5) and my customer bought into the argument to do so five years ago

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |

And we care why exactly?
speaking only for myself, I couldn't care less what OS you use or don't use.
there is no such thing as a perfect OS, so pick one that works for you and quit whining to everyone else why you weren't able to use another one.
I simply do not comprehend the need of a bunch of moaners and evangelists who feel the constant need to recruit others to a OS/distro they ( the evangelists ) proclaim and conversely I don't understand or care about people who insist on trying to steer people away from one.
Just because you like or don't like an OS, you are capable or incapable of using an OS, doesn't mandate that you try to sway everyone else.
There are likely hundreds of thousands of people now who use any one of the currently available OS's /distros without problem.
Good for you, you left Linux. That'll make a difference, to you I guess, the rest of us don't really care.
