Overview of Ubuntu in the Highstreet
I’m constantly vigilant, assesing how much of the general public who are not technically minded have heard about Ubuntu, or use Ubuntu or who have used Ubuntu in the past.
I’m happy to report that incidents of people who use Ubuntu or who at least know what it is are increasing. To such a point that I would credit word of mouth and nothing else for the increase in awareness.
So I decided to take an informal poll of local computer shops/stores and large stores such as BestBuy and Radioshack.
Here I found an interesting anti-Linux movement forming. In the smaller stores it looked like the people had either been bitten badly by some older distro of Linux and were scared of Ubuntu because of the association or had been told a pack of lies from Microsoft.
The larger stores didn’t fair much better.
