Icann, but can Africa?
Last week America held onto control of Internet governance following a last-minute deal with countries who wanted an international body to do the job of assigning Internet names and numbers.
Greg Massel, co-chair of the Internet Service Provider's Association (ISPA), speaking in his personal capacity, says he is relieved to hear that the American-based Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is still in charge.
"ICANN, whilst incorporated in California and empowered by an MOU with the US Department of Commerce, is internationally organised and represented by people from all over the world," says Massel.
"The concern … is that in Africa many people do not have access to the Internet, or, worse yet, do not even know what it is.

Ironic
"The concern … is that in Africa many people do not have access to the Internet, or, worse yet, do not even know what it is."
Ironic, in a country that has one of the most political corrupt governments, where civil war is the norm and human rights are a myth, where disease and starvation is the number one killer (except maybe for bullets and bombs) his concern is whether or not "his people" know what the Internet is and whether or not the US can correctly manage it.
Way to prioritize!
