Give Linux for the holidays
Now that Microsoft is evidently going to try to ship Windows 7 for the late 2009 holiday season, I see this as a challenge to the Linux comunity.
That is, it’s now May and few people are probably thinking about gifts for December. However, not only will the code be getting wrapped up for Windows 7, marketing material will be prepared, deals will be made with hardware providers, and ads will be designed, produced, and readied for showing.
I think members of the Linux community need to respond if they believe that the Linux desktop is a better choice and more suitable to be on machines given to friends and loved ones.

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |
