Why I Use Linux: Bryan’s Story
This next story comes in from Bryan Ferguson. Bryan has went through a bit of frustration with Windows.
—
I’ve been using Linux, Mint currently and Puppy on my old laptop, for about 4 years. Why did I switch? To experiment and to keep an old desktop alive without having to purchase another copy of XP. A legitimate version is on my wife’s computer. Why did I stay with Linux? Simple, it does everything I want it to do and Wine allows me to run the two Windows programs that I do want to use occasionally.
I also have a small computer repair business to keep me busy in my retirement and I do get tired with some of the issues I run into with Windows. But my biggest issue with Windows is with installing or uninstalling something – almost anything! How many times have I walked away from a computer I’m working on and come back to see it waiting for user input or wanting the computer to be restarted. In Linux you pick what you want, walk away, and come back to a notice that it is done – no restart.
