Home automation gateway runs Linux
The Fifthplay FG4000 Gateway and Home Monitor builds on Wind River Linux to offer a customizable platform for developing home automation applications, says the Intel subsidiary.
Fifthplay's FG4000 Gateway enables sensors, lights, cameras, and other home automation equipment to be monitored and controlled via the web, or even by mobile phones, says Wind River. Wind River Linux is also being used for Fifthplay's wireless touchscreen unit, which works with the gateway, offering an interactive control device that can be used around the house.
The Wind River enabled platform is said to open up new software applications such as the ability to send SMS text alerts or emails from home equipment to mobile phones. In addition, the FG4000 Gateway can be upgraded with new hardware and software to connect with a wide variety of home systems, says the company. According to Wind River, its Linux platform has displaced a competing version of Linux used in previous Fifthplay gateway products.
