Mandriva Linux 2006.1-0.3 (Beta): a Bad Joke?!
The public beta of Mandriva Linux 2006.1 (0.3) for x86 (32-bit), released on Dec. 26, looked appalling to me.
The standard CD version includes 3 CDs plus a Live CD. It's supposed to come with:
X.Org 6.9 final
KDE 3.5.0
GNOME 2.12
OpenOffice.org 2.0.0.
and a lot of improvements.
I was very interested on the progress Mandriva's having on the GNOME part, albeit it's primarily a KDE distro.
I got the ISO files from ftp://mandrake.mirrors.pair.com/Mandrakelinux/devel/iso/2006.1/i586/
Another good mirror is:
ftp://ftp.belnet.be/packages/mandrakelinux/devel/iso/2006.1/i586/

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |
