Is Firefox Set To Turn Against Flash?
Rob Sayre, one of the leading developers of the Firefox platform has posted a very candid opinion about Apple’s influence on the web and it is not the kind of opinion you would expect. In fact, Sayre openly criticizes Flash as being incompatible with the mission of Firefox.
Given the fact that Apple is widely criticized for its walled garden strategy and the general belief that it is too controlling and monopolizing the Internet, as well as the fact that Apple prevents Mozilla from publishing a fully functional Firefox for the iPhone/iPad, you might expect more criticism from Sayre. However, Sayre believes that Apples iPhone and iPad are great for the web “the best things that have ever happened” to keep plugins such as Flash and Silverlight “from taking over the web.”
