The milestone release of LibreOffice 4.0 was announced today by Italo Vignoli on The Document Foundation blog. He said of 4.0, "This is the first release that reflects the objectives set by the community at the time of the announcement in September 2010." Vignoli also took the opportunity to brag on the growing LibreOffice community.
Since the formation of The Document Foundation, the goal has been to clean up the code, improve performance, bring in long desired features, make contributing easier, and, basically in short, World domination. Oh, they say those goals are, "a cleaner and leaner code base, an improved set of features, better interoperability, and a more diverse and inclusive ecosystem," but anyone who has been following the project and using their products can plainly see all they really care about is knocking every other office suite off users' desktops.
