XPde and XPwm: An Overview
In this series of Linux desktop graphical environment overviews, we saw widely used KDE and GNOME a while back. Today, we’ll take a look at XPde. This Linux graphical environment looks like a carbon copy of Microsoft Windows XP and it runs very much independently of KDE and GNOME.
The odd thing about this graphical environment is that it gives you the Microsoft Windows XP feel and look, but no emulation of Windows applications or clipboard compatibility between Qt and GTK+, or it runs only on x86 systems.
The latest version of this graphical environment is XPde 0.5.1 which was released on 21 August, 2004. This release even included a Start Menu, which made this environment a complete clone of Microsoft operating systems (Start menu is one of the notable characteristics of Windows).
