SUSE kubuntu Slackware KDE 3.5.3 packages on mirrors
KDE 3.5.3 was tagged approximately a week ago and some developers have uploaded binaries onto mirrors. Not announced yet, kde 3.5.3 is primarily a maintenance release. On mirrors today we find binaries for SUSE, Slackware, and kubuntu. KDE announcement expected any day.
I downloaded and installed KDE 3.5.3 when it was first tagged and although the speed of kapplications, especially konqueror, seem faster again, there are still some remaining problems. Kweather is still broken, as well as the display of hard drive partitions on the desktop. I've been experiencing some strange behavior from klipper since 3.5.2 and it remains in 3.5.3.
The speed increases in konqueror is documented as improvements in fontrendering, giving a few percent speedup by caching font scalability info.
Also found in konqueror is improved XHTML CSS styling, speed-up painting and selections on pages with large tables, and a fix for certain crashes when hovering HTML menu items.
KDE announcement is expected any day.

re: Why three versions of KDE 3.5.3
There's one version from KDE, those others are packages put together by the distro developers and uploaded to the kde and other mirrors. Usually, once you see those showing up on mirrors, you know official announcement is close. Distro developers are usually given a week head start to put them together before announcement.
