Kdbus, F23 update, FUDCon Pune report, and… is Fedora slowing down?
If you’ve poked around the running processes on a modern Linux system, you’ve seen something called dbus. You can read more about this on the dbus website, but the basic summary is that it’s a system for passing messages between programs. Mostly, it runs in the background and users don’t ever think about it — but it’s an important part of the “plumbing”, enabling integrated desktop environment notifications for both GNOME and KDE, role selection for Fedora Server, and more.

Fedora 23 in Alpha Freeze, Due August 11
Matthew Miller wrote today that Fedora 23 construction is well underway and the first public developmental release is due real soon. Version 23 went into alpha freeze Tuesday so all new features are set. Fedora 23 will offer universal package hardening by default, a default local DNS resolver, separate Atomic project out from main distribution, and lots more.

Samsung, Red Hat to Work on Linux Drivers for Future TechThe metaverse is expected to uproot system design as we know it, and Samsung is one of many hardware vendors re-imagining data center infrastructure in preparation for a parallel 3D world. Samsung is working on new memory technologies that provide faster bandwidth inside hardware for data to travel between CPUs, storage and other computing resources. The company also announced it was partnering with Red Hat to ensure these technologies have Linux compatibility. |
