KateOS 3.0 Beta: Now even easier
I recently got a chance to try out the new KateOS 3.0 alpha and beta versions, and I must say, I'm very impressed. Once based on Slackware, she's been independent since version 2.0, and while the "Slackround" is still evident in many of the system scripts, the KateOS Team works very hard to build all of their own packages. The new release brings a number of improvements, such as OpenOffice.org 2.0.3 included by default, and all of the most recent versions of many applications.
The installer is text-based, but it very easy to navigate using the keyboard. It's basically the Slackware installer, only with extra things like X autoconfiguration and mousewheel setup, and (best of all) dependency tracking. Gone are the days when KateOS was dark and scary.
