Survey Indicates Better Grades for Open Source in UK Universities
A new survey hosted by the University of Oxford indicates that the use of open source software is on the increase at further and higher educational establishments in the UK.
The OSS Watch survey was carried out in February and March this year and found that 77% of institutions consider open source when procuring software, although only 25% of institutions mention open source software specifically in an institutional policy.
OSS Watch, which was set up to promote awareness and understanding of the legal, social, technical and economic issues of open source software in post-secondary education noted that "in general OSS is used more often than in 2003 and institutions have higher levels of skills and experience of OSS compared to 2003."
