SymphonyOS site hacked (update 2)
The troubled SymphonyOS Linux project has suffered another blow to their productivity in the form of malicious hackers. As perhaps another indication of the viability of the project, reports have confirmed that the site was defaced by a group calling themselves Sessiz Prens (Turkish Hackers). They even have the audacity to list an email address. The main page is present with the shown graphics and text, but the remainder of the site is offline including the forums.
UPDATE: In an email communication with lead developer, Ryan Quinn states he was unaware the site has been hacked. The site had been held by a place-holder page while it was being reconstructed after a server hard drive crash. Quinn assures users that the project is still very much alive and development will continue as before. The site should be restored in just a few days.
UPDATE 2: An official statement has been issued by Alexander Drummond:
The Symphony OS site is down due to a server transition; we hope to have the new site up in an expedient manner. It seems that someone has taken advantage of the current situation and defaced the placeholder; hopefully this will be removed shortly. Ryan is currently undergoing a heavy workload, and this is not his primary concern at the moment. However, do not despair - Symphony development is still going full steam ahead! We hope to have some exciting new developments out in the upcoming months. Please bare with us through this transition period, as the wait will be worth it.

Sure, because having your branding smeared by a hacker isn't worthy of your time? Isn't this the guy who begged for money recently? Doesn't he know how to use rsync?
"We hope to have some exciting new developments out in the upcoming months."
Will it be worth his time then to update his site? Will anyone be around that cares?
This isn't high school - half ass'd attempts soon get to experience the full effects of business Darwinism.
Hmm...
As I recall, nobody forces you to use Symphony or to donate towards it. Why the hostility?
Frankly, if you think that his behavior is so abhorrent, why don't you go start your own distribution and show us how to do it? Competition is always a good thing.
Well, I see his point...
I run a website, and if it was defaced you would bet it would be my primary concern to get it back up and running quickly. I keep week old backups elsewhere on the server for this exact reason... to restore the site within minutes.
It just seems weird that a defaced website would not be his primary concern, especially while trying to prove to people that his OS is worth taking a look at.
website weirdness
speaking of website happenings, when did distrowatch.com become distrowatch.cz? Did I miss a memo?
----
You talk the talk, but do you waddle the waddle?
Haha
No clue, just noticed that today myself.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. Couldn't access the site for a few hours. When I could, noticed the domain had moved to the Czech Republic. Kinda strange.
