You can now get the latest version of Firefox for your Mandriva Linux 2006 system directly from the Security Updates. We had shipped 1.0.6 versions of both applications with Mandriva Linux 2006.0 and we decided to break our no-backports rule for Firefox and Thunderbird for that reason.

One of Morocco's first government departments to start the move to free software has chosen to switch its servers to Mandriva Linux and is looking at switching desktops to Linux in the near future in a move that could save them as much as 80% of their acquisition and support costs.
Mandriva has announced a set of online, tutored training classes aimed at satisfying the growing demand for Linux skills among both businesses and individuals. The company says the training classes are adaptable to a variety of learning speeds and knowledge levels.

The last time we had took a look at Mandriva was back in the Mandrake 9.2 days. Anyhow, with the first Alpha release now out for Mandriva 2007 Alpha, we decided to fire up the GNOME candidate to see how it looks these days.
Mandriva has begun their development cycle by releasing an alpha for the upcoming 2007.0. They posted a list of known issues and a few others are coming to light. Beranger looked at the gnome version which compliments my choice of the kde version. These are approximately 684M livecds and best defined as cooker snapshots at this point. The full install version is expected in the next few days. So how did the kde version do here on a desktop machine?
I couldn't help myself but testing the GNOME one. And I'm rather perplexed with what I saw.
First of all, I used for this my legendary old laptop, reputed for getting very well will live distros like: PCLinuxOS 0.92, CentOS 4.3 LiveCD, the Ubuntu line, Hedinux, MEPIS, and more.
The first development ISO images of Mandriva Linux 2007 have been released for download and testing. At the time of writing only Mandriva One live CD images for the i586 and x86_64 architectures are available, but expect the usual full (4-CD) installation sets to appear on Mandriva mirrors in a day or two.
