While Facebook and Google are huge names and indeed are also willing to kill off services which don't work (especially Google this year) there are other URL's which provide niche services.

email is the greatest timewaste of the modern office..

Just been reading an interesting Techcrunch article "Solving eMail overload with a company-wide ban" in which Thierry Breton, CEO ofAtos, wants his “zero email” policy to be in place within a year-and-a-half.

I have to think my place of work and come to the conclusion Mr Breton may be onto something. eMail is less of a tool and more of a hindrance in many cases.

I'd be interested in feedback from anyone who has suggestions for reducing email..

How far off is a Star Trek level of Language Translation?

If you watch this video it shows Google Translate doing its stuff translating between two Languages. Its pretty obvious that despite years of desktops trying to push text to speech, voice control and similar translate offerings its obvious this is a battle which moving forward is going to be fought on the mobile platforms.

Linux 4.10 To Linux 4.15 Kernel Benchmarks

The ThinkPad X1 Carbon has been enjoying its time on Linux 4.15. In addition to the recent boot time tests and kernel power comparison, here are some raw performance benchmarks looking at the speed from Linux 4.10 through Linux 4.15 Git. With this Broadwell-era Core i7 5600U laptop with 8GB RAM, HD Graphics, and 128GB SATA 3.0 SSD with Ubuntu 17.10 x86_64, the Linux 4.10 through 4.15 Git mainline kernels were benchmarked. Each one was tested "out of the box" and the kernel builds were obtained from the Ubuntu Mainline Kernel archive. Read more
